Day 1-San Diego to Alpine, CA: 40 miles and 1,800 feet elevation

April 20, 2011 § Leave a comment

We are in Alpine, California after a pleasant, though uphill day of riding.
The weather was cool due to overcast skies and the route was either via bicycle path or bike lane for the whole  40 miles(I guess we really are in California!).
One of the first chores upon arriving was to find a dentist for Joe in order to repair part of a porcelain crown that cracked off last night while he was flossing. Mission accomplished and he should be good for awhile.
In the morning we anticipate an early start, 6.30 am, uphill toward Pine Valley at 4,000 feet elevation, and then on further through more passes as our legs allow.
